About our shul
Kehilas Zichron Yaakov was founded in 2015 by a group of young families who wanted a shul to call their own in the up and coming neighborhood of Hempstead Heights (Monsey, NY area). What started out as a small shul with a handful of families has Baruch Hashem blossomed into a Kehilla of more than fifty families.
The shul began as a Shabbos minyan in the garage of Eli & Sarah Leah Wiener. Each Shabbos, a headcount was taken to ensure that there would be a minyan that week. Baruch Hashem, within a short period of time, the garage was filled to capacity. Two and a half years later, the shul set out to find another location to accommodate the growing community. Yaakov & Avital Vaksman graciously offered the lower level of their home, and after some renovations, the shul moved in before Rosh Hashanah of 5778.
Rav Yosef Kaiser joined the Kehilla in 2022 and has elevated the ruchnius of the shul in many ways. There are minyanim each morning and night, daily Daf Yomi shiurim, an Oraysa chabura twice a day, Sunday shiurim, Pirchei, and Avos U’banim. Baruch Hashem, the shul continues to grow, and we are currently in middle of construction of our new Shul.
In 2025, the shul was renamed Kehilas Shaarei Hatikvah, after the shul name was dedicated by the former Washington Heights kehilah bearing the same name.
